Entrance Examination

The Entrance Examination for entry to Year 7 in September 2019 will take place on the morning of Saturday 12th January 2019.

The Stamford Endowed Schools will be using new assessment tests in place of those previously used. We will no longer be using the Non-Verbal Reasoning papers and will focus on the core requirements of English and Mathematics. The Mathematics and English assessments will each be a one-hour adaptive test completed on a computer. The day will also include a creative writing task as well as an interview with a member of the teaching staff at the appropriate school.

For detailed information regarding assessment changes and an outline of the Entrance Examination day please see the FAQ document, or contact the Admissions Team.

Entrance Exam FAQs

Those candidates who perform strongly in the examination will be invited back to sit an Academic Scholarship paper and to attend an interview. For September 2019, the Scholarship exam is on the morning of 19th January 2019 and will last for about an hour. There is no need to apply for an Academic Scholarship as your child will automatically be invited to attend, based on their performance.

Automatic Entry to the Senior Schools

Pupils from Stamford Junior School currently have automatic entry to Stamford School and Stamford High School and are not required to sit the Entrance Examination for the senior schools. It is of great benefit to pupils in the final year of the Junior School that they are able to enjoy a full year of teaching without the pressure of examinations. If however, your child wishes to qualify for an academic scholarship, they will need to undertake the Entrance Examination alongside all pupils from other schools, as this forms part of the Scholarship assessment process.

Bursarial assistance is not available for pupils whilst they are at Stamford Junior School, although an application for a bursary can be considered upon transition to the senior schools. There should be no expectation that bursarial support will be awarded and any applications will be considered objectively. Bursary applicants undertake rigorous means-tested screening and there will be a requirement for your child to sit the Entrance Examination as part of the assessment process.

Should you wish to apply for a bursary, and have not already done so, please request a Bursary Application Pack from the Admissions Team, and return the completed forms by Friday 23rd November 2018.

We welcome any questions so please don’t hesitate to contact our admissions office.
