Charity Projects in India - Team 4
The team spent five days in the village of Phyang - about 45 minutes drive from Leh - working at the small primary school of Fulung Phyang. The school building was home to about ten students aged between four and eight years old. Over the five days, the team were able to completely repaint the inside of the building and decorate the walls with a map of the world, the alphabet, mathematical shapes and a height chart for the children to use. We were also able to create a dedicated kitchen space, repair several chairs and blackboards that were broken and build some shelving units from scratch for the teachers to store their resources. Throughout our time in Phyang, we were made to feel very welcome by the villagers; camping in the grounds of one of the teacher’s houses and being invited to a village festival in which the men demonstrated their skill with the bow and arrow. The photos show the school before, during and after the project was completed.
