Our Country's Good - School production
‘Our Country’s Good’, by Timberlake Wertenbaker, was this year’s School drama production. Set in the early years of the British colonisation of Australia, the play explores the attitudes of a group of transported convicts and the naval officers who guard them. It is an intelligent and challenging piece of theatre and was directed and performed with imagination and energy. It allowed individuals to shine in some demanding emotional roles but also depended for its success on the impressive teamwork (on stage and back stage) which allowed the episodic story to flow and develop and drive onwards to its triumphant ending. The play was enjoyed by packed audiences for three nights at the Stamford Corn Exchange.
