World Book Day Celebrations
Stamford Junior School celebrated World Book Day with pupils and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters. A variety of activities took place around school, including poetry performances between the Year 1 pupils and the Year 7 girls, who visited from the High School. The Year 7s performed their own individual pieces, which they had written for the day. The Year 1 pupils truly appreciated the value of performance poetry which they reciprocated with dramatic performances of their own Pirate Poetry. The Year 3’s created their own Mr Men books which now adorn the bookshelves at SJS. Other activities included fun filled, paired work, which called for the children to create a story focusing on their favourite book characters - together in the one piece.
Year 5 teacher Fiona Sampson, said: “All in all the day was highly successful with everyone having fun whilst raising money for charity. Funds raised will be donated to Book Aid International to purchase new books for schools in countries such as Africa, where resources are limited for the children who study there.”
