Stamford break new ground
Never ones for shirking a challenge, Stamford School’s senior rugby players this summer packed their bags in the name of rugby and headed to ‘The Land of the Rising Sun’, Japan.
The popularity of rugby is currently soaring in Japan ahead of the country hosting both the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Olympics. The students sped around the country on the famous Bullet train which took them through Tokyo, Yokohama, Hiroshima, Yamanashi and Kyoto, sightseeing and taking on the top rugby playing schools in Japan all the while.
Stamford Schools ‘A’ side finished the tour with four wins out of four while the second side returned home with a won two, lost two, drew one record.
Director of Rugby David Laventure paid tribute to the boys: "The boys were outstanding on and off the pitch and I’m sure they will look back on all their experiences with very fond memories. They were presented with many challenges, some cultural, some physical and they responded brilliantly! It certainly proved to be the adventure of a lifetime!"
