Boys Take Part in Reading Rugby Game
Author Tom Palmer presented his rugby reading game to students in Year 7 and Year 8. During the game students (and staff) were asked to answer questions based on rugby, football and current affairs. Those who correctly answered a question were able to take part in a penalty knockout to score a conversion over a set of indoor rugby posts. There were several rounds to find the eventual winner, Basil Thorne (8DLS) who was awarded a trophy for his prowess.
Whilst asking the questions Tom explained to the students how reading books about sport and news articles had often sparked ideas for his writing. He said one of his favourite pieces of research had been a trip to the Arctic Circle in preparation for his book ‘White Fear’. A lively question and answer session rounded off the morning, during which Tom revealed his love of all teams Leeds.
