Students learn from world class choreographers
During the Stamford Endowed Schools inaugural music, art and drama (MAD) week, a group of students took part in a dance workshop run by New Adventures Dance Company. New Adventures is the UK’s most in demand contemporary Dance/Theatre touring company founded by the major British Choreographer, Matthew Bourne (OBE). 26 girls from Stamford High School were selected to take part in this very special workshop run by two Principal Dancers from the company.
During the workshop the girls were lucky enough to be taught a section from Bourne’s work ‘Swan Lake.’ They learnt first-hand what is expected of dancers as the Principal Dancers had both performed in this production. The workshop provided a fabulous opportunity for the students to enrich their study with many studying dance as part of their Performance Studies A-level course.
Nicola Watson, Performance Studies teacher at Stamford High School, said: “This experience has inspired the students to continue to pursue their love of Dance; it has helped to further develop their understanding of choreography and has encouraged them to continue to choreograph.”
