SJS Raise Funds for Peterborough Soup Kitchen
Stamford Junior School Head Girl, Eve Reading, and Head Boy, Harry Laventure, presented a cheque for £240 to Ian Davies, Chairman of Peterborough Soup Kitchen. In a specially themed assembly about helping the community, the children learned about the work that Peterborough Soup Kitchen carries out in the City of Peterborough and the surrounding areas to ensure that homeless and disadvantaged people receive hot soup, food and drinks throughout the year, whatever the weather.
Stamford Junior School children raised the money through a Veggie Creation Competition and a Sausage Sizzle evening organised by Stamford Junior School Parents’ Association. Ian Davies, Chairman of Peterborough Soup Kitchen, said: “Thank you for your donation which will help our campaign. Last year our 150 volunteers served 10,858 meals including 4.5 tonnes of soup and 2,500 loaves of bread in the area.”
Mrs Smith, Head of Stamford Junior School, commented: “We are delighted to support this local campaign and are grateful to Ian Davies for coming to explain to the children how the results of their fundraising activities are used to help people in the community.”
