Excellent progress for senior rugby teams
Stamford School’s senior rugby teams have enjoyed another successful half term on the rugby pitch. The foundations were laid back in July when a development squad packed their bags and warmed up with a 3 week unbeaten tour of Eastern Canada. Things got a bit more serious as the Second and First XV endured a tough pre-season training camp at Durham University in August’s sweltering heat. The fruits of their labour are there for all to see and the top 3 sides can be proud of their results so far.
The Third XV inspired by Michael McLaughlin and Jack Jones have won all six of their games, with the highlight away wins over Bedford School and Stowe School. Not wanting to be outdone the Second XV have also won seven from seven thanks to the efforts of all the players including stand-out performances from Chris Lipscombe and Tom Herbert against Bedford School and Uppingham. The First XV have lost just one match, a 20-17 heartbreaker at Bedford, but they bounced back to produce solid wins over Uppingham, Oundle and Stowe.
First XV Captain Connor Collett remains positive: “We have made a very positive start and we feel as though we are developing more as squads, we are all looking forward to the remainder of the season.”
