Saturday night, 26th June, a light breeze swept the sky of clouds and the full moon ensured that it never really went dark. Perfect conditions for some 40 or so pupils from Stamford Endowed Schools and Oakham School to combine to undertake a Night-Sail to raise funds for the RNLI.
The challenge was for a relay of sailing dinghies to cover the equivalent distance to France and back. Parents on shore pitched in with barbeques and supervised the campsite for those sailors who caught a few hours sleep before taking over the sailing at sunrise (4:45) to finish off the challenge. Indeed the enthusiasm of the sailors was such that they went from Dover to Calais and back, along the coast a bit, and over to Cherbourg all before breakfast. The combined fundraising activities of the two schools contributed over £1,500 to the RNLI to date. Contributions can still be made by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/sesnightsail2010
