‘Journey to Italy’ Activity Morning
Last Saturday morning, 12 very excited pupils arrived at the Junior School Art Room ready to embark upon a Journey to Italy! The activity morning began with Mrs Hewett showing the pupils one of the most famous Leonardo da Vinci paintings and gave a demonstration of how to paint a self-portrait in a similar style. The children used a photograph of themselves to inspire their paintings using water-soluble oil paints. Great care was taken by each child as they endeavoured to produce their own self-portrait.
Mrs Hewett then talked to the children about the geography of Italy and this formed the basis for them to make their own board game. The children were able to use water-soluble coloured pencils to illustrate their game and in no time at all, the morning had ended (all too quickly!). 12 very happy children left the Art Room with their game and their self-portrait, worthy indeed of the great master himself!
