Student Success Celebrated at Speech Days
Each year, Stamford School and Stamford High School celebrate the achievement of their pupils in their Speech Day events. This year, Stamford High School’s Speech Day took place on Friday 20th June, and Stamford School’s on Saturday 21st June. As well as seeing prizes awarded to the students for their accomplishments, the assembled parents, staff and governors of the Schools were able to enjoy a speech from a special guest speaker.
At Stamford High School, Jill Berry, Former Head of Dame Alice Harpur School and Past President of the Girls' Schools Association, inspired the audience with her speech about the art of possibility. The prize winners and parents listened intently to Jill's words as she spoke about turning the possible into the probable by hard work and ambition.
Sir Peter Simpson MD FRCA, Consultant Anaesthetist, was the guest speaker at Stamford School. After Will Phelan, The Headmaster, gave his address, Sir Peter Simpson followed this with an inspirational speech. He imparted some wise words about how grit and determination are the most important attributes for success in life. He then went on to say that Stamford School students will develop these characteristics through their varied experiences at the School.
At both Speech Days the guest speaker presented awards to the pupils for achievement in the different subjects as well as the winners of special awards and prizes. The Chairman of Governors, Malcolm Desforges, spoke at both events, outlining the Schools’ commitment to academic excellence and an education beyond the classroom.
Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, Stephen Roberts, congratulated the pupils and staff on their dedication and hard-work over the past year. He said of the Speech Days: “These events illustrate clearly the spirit of education at our Schools. There is a culture of achievement and high expectation, and a strong desire to ensure all our pupils do well. I would like to thank our guest speakers and congratulate the pupils on their many accomplishments this year.”
