Juniors Collect Multiple Medals at Cross Country Meet
Stamford Junior School took a team of students to run in a Cross Country competition on Saturday, and came home with nine individual medals, and four team titles.
Six schools from the local area took part in the annual Cross Country meet, hosted by Brooke Priory School. Stamford had their most successful year ever with a team of 46 pupils, from years three to six, the course is a challenging run over fields and obstacles to test the stamina of the runners. In the U8 girls Ada Armes was 3rd, in the U9 girls Charlotte Coulsey was the winner with Nicole Doody-Velasquez 3rd, Natasha Mountain 4th and Ruby Sumner 5th. Sam Wilson finished 2nd and Finnian McCory 4th in the U9 Boys. In the U10 girls Zara Pollock finished 3rd and in the U10 boys Ben Goold came 3rd and Charles Anslow 4th. Sophie Reeves was the winner of the U11 girls with Lucy Barber close behind in 3rd place.
PE teacher Wendy Haynes was especially happy with the result sending her “Congratulations to Sam Hughes who has won his age group every year he has taken part and made it a hat-trick by winning the U11 Boys this time.” In the team events Stamford won the U9 Girls, U9 Boys, U10 Boys and U11 Girls.
