SJS Host Festival of Chess
On Saturday 1st November, 50 children gathered at Stamford Junior School to pit their wits against each other over six rounds of chess.
Students aged 7-11 from across the local area joined Stamford Junior School for the annual Festival of Chess. All the children were invited to play rounds against each other for a chance at titles and trophies at the end of the day, and there were notable performances by many children from Stamford Junior School, Witham Hall School, St Gilberts Primary School, John Clare Primary and Malcom Sargent Primary, many of whom will now be invited to represent Lincolnshire.
Mrs Helen Britton, who organises the annual event said that “the children were a credit to their schools and to themselves, playing chess extremely well. We’re now looking forward to the next local tournament at Malcolm Sargent School in the new year.”
Stamford Junior School students, Anu Mitchell (U10), Raiffe Headley (U8) and Laith Nussair-Palmer (U8) all came in as runners-up in their respective groups.
