U11 Rugby at Leicester Grammar Junior School
After a well-earned half term break the Colts A rugby team travelled to Leicester Grammar School where they came up against 7 other local schools including; Witham Hall, Brooke Priory and Fairfield. The Stamford Junior School team got off to a superb start against Fairfield playing great expansive rugby and ending up as 6-3 winners, with Tom Dancy scoring a brace of tries. The next match was a local derby against Witham Hall. Sam Hughes and Archie Dickie-Meadows started to control the game making some great runs and timely passes allowing Tom Dancy to score a further 2 tries with Josh Cothill also scoring 2 tries including an extravagant finish in the corner. Witham only managed one try in return. The final group game was against LGS 2 which ended up to be a comfortable victory 7-1 with the pick of the tries coming from Matthew Linsell intercepting the ball, straight from the first restart.
In the final Stamford played the winners of Group 1 which were the hosts LGS 1. LGS came out fighting with some crunching tackles but Stamford remained composed which showed when Sam Hughes was able to quickly offload the ball after being tackled resulting in a try for Guy Larter using his strength to bundle over the line. LGS came back strong scoring a very quick try in response and almost scored another but some great defence from Tom Dancy and Josh Cothill halted LGS close to the line. Stamford then turned up a gear culminating in a fantastic move allowing Archie Dickie-Meadows to superbly finish in the corner. Stamford were eventual 4-1 winners. In total the SJS team scored a total of 22 tries in 4 games only conceding 5 tries. Well done!
