U14 Hockey Perform at Regional Tournament
Stamford High School’s U14 hockey team travelled to the University of East Anglia for the East Regional National Schools Championships last Thursday.
During their first pool game the SHS team faced Bedford Modern School for the second time this season. Although they played well in defence the SHS team were unlucky to concede two goals leading to a final score of 0-2.
The next game was against Royal Masonic School who again were stiff competition. However SHS fought back from being 0-1 down within 8 minutes to eventually win 2–1. A special mention goes to the two goal scorers Georgie Richardson and Alice Howard.
The final SHS pool game was against Framlingham who eventually went through to the final of the tournament and proved to be the strongest opposition scoring 8 goals against the SHS team. Framlingham's short corner routines were slick and well-rehearsed with 6 goals scored.
Having come 3rd in their pool SHS played in the 5th/6th play-off against The Perse. The SHS team created some excellent opportunities but unfortunately the game ended 0-3.
SHS were placed 6th overall, beating Spalding who had beaten the SHS team in the county qualifying round. A highly respectable performance all round of which all of the girls can be very proud of. Players of the tournament were: Ellie Bolsover, Georgie Talukdar and Annabelle Wells.
