U16 Netball Team are County Champions

U16 county netball chmapions Having qualified for the Lincolnshire County Netball finals, Stamford High School’s U16 team travelled to Grantham to compete for a place in the regional competition.

SHS’ first opponents were Caistor Grammar who are renowned for their netball. After a neck and neck first half SHS ran away with goal after goal, finishing their first game comfortably 17-8.

The second game was against Sir John Nelthorpe who proved stronger than anticipated, but Velvet Cordial and Emily Grace were on fire in the shooting circle. SHS held the lead finishing 11-7. The team also secured an impressive win against previous county winners, Priory LSST.

Not wanting to be complacent, the girls knew they had to win their final match to ensure they finished as winners of their pool. In the final match, Toll Bar tried hard but Charlie Crombie, Emily Howard and Emily Goodson dominated the centre court feeding balls consistently to the shooters, who once again never failed to miss.

As pool winners, SHS played Queen Elizabeth High School, Gainsborough, in the semi-final. The most important match of the day started well with the defence turning over possession on several occasions. Deanna Alderman, Olivia Ellson and Charlie Clayton demonstrated fine defensive work, intercepting and preventing Gainsborough from entering their attacking circle. Composure was the key and SHS earned a well-deserved place in the final.

On the other side of the courts, Sir John Nelthorpe gained their place in the final against SHS. The girls knew they had a guaranteed place in the regionals, but they wanted to enter the next tournament as Lincolnshire County winners. Having played the best netball of the tournament all day, SHS continued in the final, securing their place as Lincolnshire County Champions.

A huge congratulations to the U16 Netball team: Velvet Cordial (captain), Deanna Alderman, Charlie Clayton, Charlie Crombie, Olivia Ellson, Emily Goodson, Emily Grace, Emily Howard.
