New Head Appointed at Stamford High School
Mrs Vicky Buckman has been appointed as the new Head of Stamford High School, to start in September 2015.
Mrs Buckman will take over from Mrs Powell, who is retiring from the role following a very successful period for the school. Numbers have held up despite the loss of the LEA scholars, academic standards are high and the extra-curricular life of the school is vibrant.
Mrs Buckman is a graduate of Leeds University and has spent her entire teaching career in the independent sector; initially at Christ’s Hospital in Horsham, where she spent 15 years as a Housemistress, and then as Deputy Head at City of London Freemen’s School in Ashtead. In addition, Mrs Buckman has been involved in sport and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, as well being a fully qualified SCUBA diver. She is an ISI Inspector and, in this role, has inspected schools of all types up and down the country. Outside education, Mrs Buckman is a keen gardener, swimmer and musician.
Mrs Buckman said of her appointment “Stamford High School is a vibrant and friendly School; I am delighted to be taking over as Head and look forward to building on the firm foundations established by Mrs Powell. My family and I are excited about the move to Stamford and becoming part of a very special community”.
Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, Stephen Roberts, said “We are confident that Mrs Buckman’s appointment will ensure the School continues to thrive and develop. Mrs Buckman is a passionate advocate of girls’ education and we look forward to welcoming her to the High School.”
