First XI Cricketers Progress to the Next Round
A young and inexperienced 1st XI Stamford School squad have progressed to the second stage of the National Schools T20 competition beating Oakham and Leicester Grammar.
Posting a competitive 146-6 against Oakham with Jules Brahmachari, Mo Danyaal and Sam Evison providing the platform for Nick Green to push the total. With the ball, Danyaal and Will Dallas bowled with pace and accuracy, Danyaal the pick with 3-0-8-2. Year 8 Joey Evison, playing his debut match, picked up an impressive 3 wickets under pressure in the penultimate over to secure the victory and finished with 2-0-12-3.
Against Leicester Grammar, a steady initial pace led to a superb flourish ending with Stamford posting 143-3. Tom Davies ran the opposition fielders ragged, before he and skipper Sam Evison, struck a flurry of powerful boundaries in the last 3 overs. A powerful middle order of Leicester brought them back into the match after early wickets, but leg spinner Harry Clarke 4-0-20-3 and off spinner Sam Evison 2-0-10-3 effectively ended the tie with key wickets.
