Olympic Medallist Guest Speaker at Sports Awards Evening
Stamford High School’s Sports Awards Evening was held on Wednesday 29th April, with Team GB Olympic Medallist, Sally Walton lending a hand to speak to the girls about her sporting journey.
The Sports Awards Evening at SHS is a time for the staff, parents and pupils to come together and celebrate both team and individual highlights and achievements over the hockey and netball seasons. Mrs Cannie and Miss Higgins both gave detailed speeches of the hockey and netball seasons and presented the prize winners with their awards.
Guest speaker was hockey player and Great Britain Olympic Bronze medallist, Sally Walton. During her address to students and parents, Sally talked about her journey to becoming a professional athlete. Highlighting that although the lows were frustrating, this is what made her stronger and more determined. Sally discussed how having a thick skin and plenty of passion towards her sport were the two characteristics that pulled her through the tough times. She also applauded the parents for their support.
Sports teacher at SHS, Miss M Higgins said: “The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Well done to all girls who participated in the hockey and netball seasons, and to the individuals who were presented with their awards.”
