Year 8’s Explore Tudor History at Burghley
Last Saturday, Stamford High School’s Year 8 History club visited Burghley House, narrowly avoiding becoming involved in the Rat Race!
The students had a private guided tour of the house with a particular emphasis on the Tudor period. There was so much to see and the Education Director, Mr Alwyn Pollard, gave a fascinating insight into the house, as well as, the lives of the Cecil family. We were privileged to be able to view some of the private treasures of the house, highlights being an original portrait of Elizabeth 1, the firing of a flintlock musket and the Baroning document of Lord Burghley himself. We ended our visit in the tearooms and with a trip to the gift shop!
