On Saturday 2nd May, Stamford Endowed Schools’ Hot Baroque group took part in a masterclass with the renowned cellist and winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year 2000, Guy Johnston.

The orchestra met at the Stamford Arts Centre and rehearsed for an hour under the direction of Mr Johnston, who has previously debuted at the First Night of the Proms, with the BBC Symphony orchestra, received a classical Brit award, and performed as a guest cellist with some of the biggest orchestras around the world.

In the evening the group attended a concert at the Arts Centre given by the European Union Chamber Orchestra with Guy Johnston as soloist in a Haydn cello concerto.

Head of Strings at SES, Mr D Leetch said “This was a fantastic learning opportunity and the students all benefited greatly from his musical and technical insights.”
