Sailing Team End Season on a High
The SES sailing team has ended the season with over a week of fleet racing and team racing competitions, setting two sets of new school records.
During the last week of term at the National Schools Sailing Championships in Itchenor, James Leetch and Jem Leedham took 1st place in the mini-series and 2nd place in the main series while Sam Leedham and James Hayes took 4th place in each; the first time Stamford have ever had two boats in the top 4.
This week, following an outstanding performance at the BSDRA Easterns in May, the team were in Fireflies at the BSDRA National Team Racing Finals along with well established team racers such as Oakham, Sevenoaks, Winchester, Tonbridge and MCS. In blazing sun, and sailing from 9am to 7pm, they qualified in 5th place for gold fleet and, following a very exciting series of battles on the second day, finished 7th overall. An incredible result for their first Nationals and as the only team which doesn’t even own a set of Fireflies in which to train. A huge well done to Sam Leedham (c) , Alex Middleton, James Leetch, Jem Leedham, Tom Proffitt and Jess Flint for this achievement.
