Sailing Team Selected for RYA Youth Squad 

sailing SES students James Leetch (Year 12) and sailing partner, Jemima Leedham (Year 11) have just been re-selected for the RYA 29er UK Youth Squad.

Based on the team’s performance at the UK Youth Squad selections and profiling day James and Jemima were chose to represent the RYA in the 29er Youth Squad 2015/16. The Youth Squad programmed is designed to enable the best British sailors to develop their racing skills so that they can achieve on the international stage. It is aimed at sailors with the potential for world-class performance. Sailors are invited to join the RYA UK Youth Squad if the selectors feel they may have the potential to achieve winning a medal at World or European Championships, qualify for Team GBR for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships and/or to successfully follow an Olympic pathway.

By achieving this, James and Jemima now have access to support from the RYA National Coach, and will receive advice from the RYA Youth Squad sports psychologist, and support with nutrition and strength and conditioning.

Now in the Sixth Form at SES, James’ involvement in sailing means he hopes to study Naval Architecture at University.
