First XV Continue to Build Momentum
Stamford School First XV produced a solid display as they beat Bedford Modern School 31-10 to pick up another home victory.
The home side started slowly and conceded an early penalty, which seemed to kick-start their attacking game. Sam Evison controlled things well from the breakdown and fly-half Sidwell moved the ball efficiently across the park. Gabriel Smithson’s quick footwork down the right wing led to a penalty try before Diswell broke the line and rounded the full-back to score.
The forwards continued to dominate the breakdown and the pressure eventually told. Lewis, Coulam and Hudson carried well before skipper Henry Wills crashed over. Evison then added the extras. The second half saw great defensive efforts from Ed Bateman and MOTM Jules Bramachari as BMS struggled to convert their opportunities. A great flowing move allowed Isaac Troughton to dart over before strong running from Callum Corbett saw him dive under the sticks to seal the victory.
Coach David Laventure was full of praise for the team. "The boys worked really hard this week and went up a gear from last week’s victory”, he said. “Despite the injuries, they are getting on with the job at hand and played some great stuff today." The First XV are home to Uppingham School this Saturday.
