SHS Pupils Compete at Keysoe Arena Eventing

horse eventing SHSSunday 22nd November saw Stamford High School take three teams to the Keysoe Arena Eventing where two teams emerged as overall winners.

SHS fielded one team in the 80cm and two in the 90cm, which differ through the size of the fences competitors must jump. The event was well attended with competing schools including; Kings Ely, Kimbolton, BMS, Spalding High, Wellingborough and Stowe.

Arena eventing involves competitors completing a round of show jumping followed immediately by a cross county phase. There are usually around twenty-five to thirty fences in total and it is against the clock. The fastest clear rounds win.

The team competing in the 80cm category went clear with strong times on the cross country and maintained their lead to win. This team consisted of; Sophie Golland (Y9), Louise Arnold (Y10), Eve Reading (Y8), Sasha Pollock (10).

Then it was the 90cm team’s turn, the blue team went first and knocked only the one pole down, before the red team knocked just three down. This resulted in the blue and red teams finishing in first and third respectively.

The blue team consisted of; Sophie Golland (Y9), Patsy Brake (Y10), Elsie Cunliffe (Y9) and Lucinda Wellman-Smith (Y10). The red team featured; Emma Vergette (Y10), Louise Arnold (Y10), and Eve Reading (Y8).
