Geography goes Chocolatey with BYOD
Year 8 pupils have been exploring the rainforest and the globe to investigate the production of Cacao beans for Britain’s favourite treat – Chocolate. Miss Allen used a blend of curated and created resources to formulate a lesson that integrated tablet devices to enhance the available learning opportunities.
The Year 8 students researched rainforest products, the location of Cacao producers, on-line atlases, videos and links shared via the Microsoft shared class OneNote Notebook. The pupils seamlessly moved from tablets to exercise books and back as part of a series of paper based activities.
Mr. Sekhar, the SHS E-Learning Co-ordinator who observed the lesson said “The pupils were highly competent at transitioning from digital to traditional resources, their skill in this area has significantly improved since the beginning of the BYOD programme in September”.
Megan Gunther an 8EW pupil, Welland Boarder and the ‘Y8 Tech Prefect’ leader had the following to say, “The new Y8 Tech Prefects are working with both pupils and staff to provide support and training so we can have the benefits of the BYOD tablets in more of our subjects. It’s a really exciting time at SHS!”
