Multiple Medals for SES in Gymnastics Competition

east mids gymnastics championshipStamford Junior School hosted the East Midlands Schools Floor and Vault Championships on Saturday 30th January and performed fantastically with all teams entered finishing in medal positions.

Although it is a competition in its own right, it also acts as a qualifier for the National Finals, with the winning team from each category going forward to represent the region. SES entered 5 teams - Under 11 Girls 'B' team, Under 11 Girls 'A' team, Under 14 Girls team, Under 14 Mixed team and Under 19 Girls team.

The under 11 Girls ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams both competed strongly and finished first and second respectively. The under 14 mixed team and the under 14 girls team also did extremely well and came first and second respectively. The final team competing was the under 19 Girls team who also won their respective category. The U14 Mixed team, U11 Girls 'A' team and Under 19 Girls team will now progress forward to the National Finals in Stoke on Trent in May.

There was also some strong individual performances with Rachel Harte and Hannah Forrester (both u11 Girls) achieving third individually. Daisy Fox (U11 Girls), Alice Bird (U14 Mixed) and Isabella Plant (U19 Girls) obtaining second place finishes. Finally Elysée Mordel (U11 Girls), Beth Wilson (U14 Mixed) and Lottie Smith (U19 Girls) all came in first place individually.

Trudy Smith, gymnastics coach and SJS class teacher, said “All of the girls competed magnificently, and there were some outstanding performances both individually and collectively as teams.”
