History trip to National Civil War Museum
On Saturday 5th March 10 Year 8 pupils accompanied by Mrs Rackham and Mrs Grant visited the National Civil War Museum, Newark.
The day started with a tour of Newark, by Civil War resident John Twentyman, He gave a fascinating insight into the strategic importance of Newark and what life was like for the residents during the three sieges. Terrifying tales were told, as well as some skin crawling facts. The superb storytelling was accompanied with props such as a real cannonball.
The students then enjoyed a very informative cinema experience and participated in many activities in the museum including donning costumes.
History staff member at Stamford High School, Amanda Rackham, said, “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and discovered a whole new perspective on the Civil War.”
