Lincs to India Project Launched
After winning the Discovering Democracy Award from HM Cabinet Office earlier this year, Stamford Endowed Schools are now looking forward to establishing a partnership and cultural exchange with two schools in Vellore, India, through a new project; Links to India.
Head of Philosophy at Stamford School, Ms Harrison set up the Lincs to India Committee after her educational visit to Vellore last year. The Committee is running the project which aims to establish the link between Stamford Endowed Schools and two schools in Vellore. The project is a student led initiative, currently there are twenty four student members from different year groups, chaired by Zishi Zhang (Year 12).
The charity aspect of the project, looks to fundraise for the students in Vellore. In the future, the committee is hoping to introduce computers into the two schools to aid communication and learning. Additionally the committee are in the process of sending books over while plans for other money raising ideas are in the pipeline. A long term goal is for exchanges to be organised where visits can take place in both countries.
Another important aspect of the project is culture. The committee is planning an ‘India Week’ in October to echo the Diwali Festival Week in India. The week will feature activities such as Rangoli art, learning how to cook Indian food and making Diya (Indian lamps).
