SJS pupils get involved with charitable initiatives
In recent months Stamford Junior School pupils have been raising money for charity through sponsored chores as part of ‘Plan International’, and are now participating in the ‘School in a Bag’ initiative.
Plan International is a charity which aims to alleviate child poverty so that children can reach their full potential. Through Plan International we sponsor two children; Garmai in Liberia and Luis in Colombia.
Left over funds from Plan International have now been used to sponsor 75 ruck sacks through the charity School in A Bag.
Each School Bag is filled with stationery, learning resources and eating utensils that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn. Luke Simon, the founder of the charity, visited Stamford Junior School to talk passionately to pupils about the work they have so far completed.
Each class had the opportunity to pack a bag and are going to be able to track exactly where it goes. Last year the bags packed by pupils of the Junior School went to flood victims in Chile.
