Girls Gear Up for Hockey Season

Stamford High School pre-season hockey campOver the August Bank Holiday weekend, a total of 124 girls attended the Stamford High School Hockey pre-season camp.

Throughout their time at the camp the girls experienced a range of different sessions, successfully dusting the cobwebs off their sticks after the summer break. The seniors, U15 and U14 age groups were privileged to be coached by Neil Evans (Cambridge City Hockey Club) and Paul Hillsdon (Peterborough Hockey Club) who both coach at Peterborough Hockey Club.

Within their masterclass sessions the girls developed their 3D skills, learned how to reverse hit and advanced their understanding of defensive techniques used in penalty corners and when defending in the circle. The U12 and U13 groups had a busy day on the Sunday working hard on their individual skills before transferring these skills into competitive games at the days end.

Stamford High School Head of Hockey, Lucy Meadows said, “Pre-season training is such an important part of the hockey season to ensure we are ready and raring to go for our matches so it was fantastic to see so many girls take up the opportunity.”
