Economists Take Part in Bank of England Challenge
Four Year 13 students took part in the first round of the Bank of England’s prestigious Target 2.0 competition. The team members were Sebastian Bender, Myles Bero, Benjamin Chaffe and Maxim Makerov.
The competition gives teams of students from across the country a chance to take on the role of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee. The teams have to assess economic conditions and the outlook for inflation and present to the panel of judges what monetary policy they would set to achieve the Government’s inflation target of 2.0%.
After delivering their presentation in the Oswald Elliott Hall to an audience of special guests two weeks prior to the first round, the Sixth Form economists were prepared to face the panel. The Stamford team stood up one by one and gave their views on the performance of the economy which was followed by university level questions from the judges.
The Stamford Endowed Schools team came third losing second place by a small margin, but the whole competition from research to final presentation was a great experience for our young economists.
