Success for Stamford Runners at Cross Country Championships
Friday 20th January saw 27 Stamford Endowed Schools’ students represent Kesteven Kestrels in the Lincolnshire Championships at Market Rasen, with 12 qualifying to run for Lincolnshire at the Anglian Championships.
The students had qualified for the championships after their successes in November’s South Kesteven Cross Country Championships at Burghley Park.
12 boys and 15 girls took part in the championships. Special mention must go to Sam Gordon-Kerr and Elliot Dee who finished second and third respectively in the Year 7 boys race. Additionally the Year 8 trio of Tom Hattee, James Rothwell and Inigo Gillick all finished in the top ten despite competing against boys a year older.
For the girls Zara Pollock and Leonie Hart finished in the top 10 for the Year 7 girls, with Imogen Dee achieving the same feat for the Year 8 girls. There was also a fantastic showing from Megan Ellison who finished 3rd in the senior girl’s event. Gemma Andreae, Holly Youles (Both Year 13) and Sophie Reeves (Year 8) all also qualified.
Coach James Mitchell said, “This is a fantastic achievement and shows the hard work the athletes have been putting in over the winter months.”
