Dancers Selected for the English Youth Ballet’s Coppélia
Five Stamford Endowed Schools’ dancers have had successful auditions for the English Youth Ballet’s Coppélia, which will be performed at Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre on 14th & 15th July.
The girls; Amelia Davison, Jessica Westwood, Marianne Vié, Joséphine Vié and Isobel Laventure completed their first rehearsals earlier this month. This first rehearsal was a casting rehearsal for the girls to audition for their parts. Joséphine was cast on pointe as one of Swanhilda’s friends and each of the other four girls will play ‘younger friend’ roles.
The English Youth Ballet has been running for many years, and has a fantastic reputation throughout the UK. The ballet will give the students a fantastic insight of a big ballet production, working alongside professional dancers and other likeminded ballet students.
During their auditions, the girls had to line up across the stage at The Stamford Corn Exchange, along with around 60 other budding dancers. They performed a normal ballet class and had to switch rows to ensure the same row was not at the front. Then, they were split into groups and asked to do different exercises to demonstrate their technique. At the end, all of those taking auditions were called back to the stage, where the numbers of the successful dancers were called.
The next rehearsals start at the end of June where there will be 50 hours of training over three weekends not including the dress rehearsal on July 13th. There will be three performances of Coppélia, one on Friday 14th and two on Saturday 15th July.
Tickets are available from Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre here.
