Hockey Team Are Regional Champions!
Last week, Stamford Junior School entered the North/Midlands Round of the IAPS Hockey Championships at Repton School, Derbyshire. Twelve schools entered and as in previous years, it was a highly competitive event.
After a slow start in their first fixture, drawing 1-1 with St Anselm’s School, Stamford soon found their rhythm and topped their group, winning the remaining four matches against St Olaves, The Elms, Beachborough and Bilton Grange. The semi-final was much the same, and Stamford won two nil over Bromsgrove School. An enthralling final saw Stamford overcome Foremarke School, last year’s winners, by 2-1, with a goal from Seb Davies in the final minute. Stamford Junior School are now Regional winners and will represent the area at the National Finals later this term.
Coach Mr Matthew Sutterby said “The continued fluent passing and movement was too much for the opposition, sweeping the Stamford Junior School side to victory on the day. The boys excelled themselves and now look forward to the National Finals.”
