U15 Cricket Team Crowned Midlands Champions

Stamford Midlands cricket champions

Stamford School defeated Bedford School in the U15 ESCA One Day Cup Regional Final to be crowned Midlands Champions.

Stamford were inserted to bat and scored scored 227-7 in their 40 overs. Joey Evison was the star of the innings, hitting 126 off 120 balls before he was caught shortly before the close of the innings.

Bedford had significant batting strength and were on course to chase down the total but a surge of wickets put them behind the rate and they were eventually bowled out for 221. Sulaiman Saleem took 4-33 and George Hooper 3-28.

Stamford won the U14 County Cup in 2016 in order to progress to the regional competition this season. They had victories against Oundle School, Shrewsbury School and Denstone College prior to playing Bedford School in the final.

Stamford School Cricket Professional, Dean Headley, commented: "This is a talented group of players who have worked hard to achieve their success so far. Winning the Midlands area is a superb achievement. Most of all they play sport with passion and lots of fun. They are a credit to the school."
