Y1 Visit Sacrewell Farm
29 children from Y1 visited Sacrewell Farm. The visit was based around the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and linked with their work in Literacy, Science, History and Geography. The children began the day with a tractor ride around the farm, stopping on the way to see the very large pond that is used by a fishing club. Then they went to see the small animals that live on the farm, including lambs, newly hatched chicks and ducklings and domestic pets, including guinea pigs.
After listening to the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and learning how bread is made, the children were treated to a guided tour around the mill. They were able to see how pulleys operate and listened to how hard the miller worked in the mill. After lunch, the children saw more of the farm animals before the fun of finding their way out of the two different mazes! As the group left, one child said, ‘I wish I was Harry Potter and then I could start the day all over again’!
