Life As A World War II Evacuee
On a visit to Holdenby House, children from Stamford Junior School assumed the role of evacuees during the Second World War. They had made gas mask boxes in DT and were given labels to denote which village they were going to be evacuated to. They took part in cooking activities, make do and mend activities (rag rugs/ pom poms/ sorting buttons), went in an Anderson shelter and experienced the air raid siren. At the end of the afternoon they sang a World War II song (White Cliffs of Dover) and finished off with the National Anthem.
