Year One Pupils Celebrate Diwali
The Year One pupils have been learning about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali, and celebrated with a week of Diwali themed activities just before the half-term break.
The children enjoyed activities such as listening to the famous story of Rama and Sita and re-enacting it with puppets, making Rangoli patterns and learning about the different artefacts used in Diwali celebrations. Two parents- Mrs Kanabar and Mrs Sitaram – also kindly provided homemade cakes and biscuits for the children to enjoy.
The highlight proved to be dance performances from students Khayali Kanabar and Sanjana Sitaram. Khayali and Sanjana had specially learnt their different routines and performed them for all the Year One children whilst wearing traditional Hindu costumes. Following their performances the girls taught their peers some of the intricate dance moves. Sanjana and Khayali then bravely agreed to dance again for the whole school at the Friday morning assembly.
Gaynor Mullock, Early Years Leader, commented “They danced beautifully, showing no signs of nerves at all, and certainly deserved the applause that they were given.”
