Annie Completes Charity Fundraisers
Stamford High School student Annie Britton recently completed the volunteering section of her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, raising money for the charity ‘Mary’s Meals.’
Y12 pupil Annie has managed to raise a fantastic £2,000 for the charity which feeds and educates children in Malawi and other poverty-stricken countries. She ran a number of fundraisers, including a ‘Cops and Robbers’ themed event which raised over £1,400, an ingenious Bed and Breakfast operation during Burghley weekend raising £250 and a party for Stamford Endowed Schools students which raised £280. As £6.15 can feed one child for a whole year, this £2,000 is guaranteed to go a long way.
Despite finishing her Duke of Edinburgh volunteering responsibilities, Annie is keen to carry on fundraising and aims to raise £6,000 for the charity by Christmas 2012, which would be enough to fund the building of a school in the countries in which Mary’s Meals operates.
Annie commented “I would like to thank everyone that came to our events because every contribution will have a significant impact on a child.”
