Love in a Box

SJS children with their shoeboxes collected for Operation Christmas ChildChildren from Stamford Junior School and Earlybird Nursery have been generously doing their bit for charity by supporting this year’s Christmas shoebox appeal, known as ‘Operation Christmas Child,’ run by the Samaritan’s Purse charity.

The children were shown videos of children from around the world who, for reasons such as war or famine, are deprived of the basic needs of life. They were encouraged to think of the gifts they may be receiving themselves at Christmas this year and how they would feel if their families were unable to provide even the most basic things, such as soap, toothpaste or a warm pair of gloves.

With this in mind, many children and their families kindly brought in over 220 shoeboxes packed with items including pens, pencils, yoyos, gloves, hats, toiletries, games and toys, as well as other thoughtful small gifts, to send to underprivileged children around the world.

Fiona Sampson, charity co-ordinator at the Junior School, commented “Hopefully this ‘love in a box’ from our pupils will bring a smile to the faces of some children this Christmas. Many thanks to all children and parents for their generosity.”
