High School team reach National Netball Finals

The Stamford High School Under 16 netball team has reached the 2012 National School Netball Finals.

The team progressed through a county round, where they dominated to win their final 16-4, a district round and a regional round.

At the regionals the team competed against the top two schools from each county in the East Midlands for a place in the national final. They came up against tough opposition and met a strong team from Oundle in the semi-final. Stamford showed their talent and won the match convincingly.

Stamford then faced Nottingham Girls’ High School in the regional final. With the score 7-7 at half-time, Stamford went on to lose 15-10 in a close battle. Both teams progressed through to the final stages.

The National Finals are held in Basildon, Essex on March 17th, and will see the top 18 schools in the country competing.

Jess Fowler, Head of Netball, said “The girls really deserve this accolade; they have played together for a long time and always work really hard for each other on court. The team have developed their knowledge of the game and applied new advanced tactics. The performance against Oundle really stood out as the team played with confidence and rigour and I was really proud to see them put all of the hard hours of training into this game. They really deserve it and I’m sure they will do themselves and Stamford High School proud in the National School Netball Final.”
