Girls perform in national dance competition
Five girls in Year 10 at Stamford High School recently took part in the ‘True Motion’ national young people’s dance competition.
Lizzie Alker, Genny Balmer, Amy Briggs, Emily Bilsby and Fiona Maddox took part after their Drama teacher, Jon Greatorix, sent off a DVD copy of their winning routine in the Year 9 House Dance competition the previous year. The applications were judged by an independent panel of dance specialists, who picked those of the highest quality to progress.
In November the girls discovered that they had been chosen to perform in the Lincolnshire county finals. This showcase offers an insight into the wealth of dance and creativity in the region, and provides participants with an opportunity to showcase their work in a professional environment.
The event was hosted at the Lincoln Drill Hall and involved a challenging dance workshop, followed by an evening performance of a dance they had choreographed themselves.
Jon Greatorix said “The girls thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and are eager to be involved next year; they have already started work on their next choreographic project.”
