Junior School Choir sings at the Barbican
The Stamford Junior School choir recently performed at the prestigious Barbican Concert Hall in London in the final of the national Barnardo’s Choir Competition.
The choir, consisting of 44 children from Years Five and Six, submitted a CD of them singing two contrasting pieces in December. The choir was subsequently selected from over 120 choirs to compete at the grand finale on the 6th March, where they faced strong opposition from 17 other excellent choirs in the Junior (Under 12) age category.
The pupils sang before the judges in the afternoon and then performed at the concert in the evening.
SES Music Teacher Janet Roberts said “The children sang with great confidence, producing a lovely tone and clear diction. Although they did not win, they were definitely amongst the best Junior Choirs there, and they should all be very proud of their performance.”
