The Stamford Junior School boys Under 11 hockey team won the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Under 11 Regional Hockey Tournament, held at Repton School, Derby.
The team, which consisted of eight boys from Years 5 and 6 (age 9-11), played in eight matches, totalling over two hours of hockey.
After drawing 1-1 in their first match against Foremarke Hall, the Junior School team went on to win all their other matches, scoring thirty goals and only conceding four along the way. The team beat Bilton Grange 3-2 in the final.
The team’s coach, Matthew Sutterby, was delighted with the performance of the team; “The boys pressurised the opposition into making mistakes and attacked with speed, making many opportunities count. They really impressed all the spectators.”
