Students Take Part in Same-Sex Marriage Debate
Two Sixth Form students participated in a debate on same-sex marriage hosted by New College Stamford last week. The SES Sixth Formers, Jamie Serjeant and Lizzie Purcell, were on separate teams and worked alongside A2 pupils at the New College.
The students put their proposition and opposition speeches together, gaining some invaluable critical thinking and debating experience in the process. The students were supported by an audience of Year 12 pupils who thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
Isla Matthews, Debating Coach at Stamford High School said, “The quality of the lengthy floor debate, as well as the exchanges of ideas and opinions between the students, were absolutely excellent. I was very impressed by the way in which the students got involved in the issues, making such searching points and expressing their opinions so eloquently.”
