Jess Wins East Midlands Netball Teacher Award
Since starting at Stamford High School three years ago, Jess Fowler has continued to show her passion and enthusiasm for Netball, dedicating herself to progressing the girls’ game. The Regional Netball Celebration Event took place at Loughborough University on 16th June, and Jess picked up the East Midlands Netball Teacher Award, which recognises outstanding contribution to the sport.
Jess was nominated by the Lincolnshire Netball Development officer for her commitment to Netball over the past three years. After starting a Monday night Netball club Jess began putting her girls forward for County trials. Since being made Head of Netball in 2011, eight girls have been selected for county teams with one student playing at Regional level. Only four students can be selected for county each year so these numbers are expected to grow.
Reflecting on her award, Jess Fowler said, “A number of my achievements have relied heavily on a core group of very committed and talented players. They have been an absolute pleasure to teach, and I am confident that they will progress further in Netball. I would also like to thank the parents who have been very supportive from the beginning.”
Anna Nelson, Captain of U16 Netball at Stamford High School said, “Over the last three years, Miss Fowler has inspired many netball players throughout the school to commit to the sport. Her outstanding coaching skills have enabled Stamford High School to reach the National Finals in Schools’ Netball both in U14 and U16 categories. Well done Miss Fowler, the award is well deserved and we are really proud of you!”
