Academic Mentoring Scheme Launched
Thirty-four SES students have been putting in the time before term even begins to launch a new Academic Mentoring Scheme that will start this year. The soon to be Year 12 students gathered in order to consider what the role of an academic mentor is and how it can be carried out successfully. There were a variety of sessions which grappled with these questions and the day gave an opportunity for the new mentors to share some fantastic ideas about how to help younger students by sharing their own learning experiences lower down the school. Mr Phelan was in attendance to share his thoughts about why our fantastic “GCSE graduates” will often be the very best point of contact to give advice to those embarking on the study of these qualifications. The students’ proactive attitude and commitment to developing mentoring in the schools was very apparent and will clearly be a welcome addition to the academic life of SES.
