Sixth Form students learn valuable Business lessons
The ‘Secrets of Successful Entrepreneurs’ morning took place on Tuesday 16th October and included such distinguished guest speakers as Governor John Y Brown, the former Governor of Kentucky and founder of the Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchise, and Jodie Farran, founder of Shaken Udders, a natural milkshake company.
Organised by global animal health and nutrition company Alltech, based in Stamford, the morning began with presentations from Governor Brown and Jodie Farran. Governor Brown, whose extraordinary career began with buying Colonel Sanders’ ‘Kentucky Fried Chicken’ and building it into the world’s largest food service company, shared his thoughts on being successful in business with the students. Jodie Farran then spoke about how her natural milkshake business grew from concessions stands at festivals to serving the nation’s biggest retailers.
The students were then given the chance to put the principles they had just heard into practice, by creating their own fictitious brands and presenting their ideas to their peers and the guests. The 70 Year 12 and 13 students in attendance are studying for their Business Studies A-Level.
Stephen Roberts, Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, said “We were honoured to welcome Governor Brown and Jodie Farran to our Schools, and are grateful to Alltech for giving students this opportunity. I am sure that the students will have been inspired by the tremendous successes of our guest speakers, who have achieved so much by seizing an idea and developing it. This will no doubt have complemented our students’ studies as well as giving them a valuable insight into what it takes to become a business leader.”
